Hardware Compatibility

Hardware Compatibility
for the Aardvark Q10, Aark 24,
Direct Pro 24/96, LX6, 20/20+, and 20/20

System Requirements:
400MHz Pentium or better ; Windows 95/98/ME/2000/XP ; 256MB RAM

Processors:
There are no known problems with any currently produced processors.
Pentium, Celeron, Athlon, Duron, K6, are all fine!

Chipsets:
AMD : If a motherboard uses the AMD 750, 751, or any other chipset beginning with 75, they are not compatible with Aardvark products. AMD ceased production of these chipsets several years ago.
Other AMD chipsets, such as the 761, work just fine.

Intel : There are no reported incompatibilities with any Intel Chipsets

Nvidia : Currently, the Nvidia Nforce2 appears to be the best chipset for AMD computers using Aardvark products.

The Nforce 420D may be problematic and cannot be recommended at this time. All other Nvidia chipsets should work fine.

Sis : There is a possibility that some Sis machines may work. However, due to inconsistent performance in pro audio environments, spanning well beyond Aardvark products, Aardvark was unable to recommend or support Sis chipsets and considers them incompatible.

Via : Via chipsets have a history of PCI throughput problems, adversely effecting many high end PCI devices. In most cases, they will work with Aardvark products, but Aardvark was unable to guarantee optimal performance. The VIA K8T800 chipset, found on some 64 bit AMD machines, is not compatible with Aardvark products.

ATI: Aardvark could not guarantee compatibility with ATI chipsets.

Note: If you are unsure what chipset your computer uses, consult the literature that came with your motherboard/PC or contact the manufacturer .

Motherboards :
Chipset is generally the best predictor of compatibility and performance, but it's still wise to stick to a well known manufacturer when purchasing a motherboard. Companies like Asus, Abit, Gigabyte, Intel, and Tyan are usually safe bets when selecting a motherboard.

Hard Drives:
There are no known problems with any hard drives. Aardvark recommended IDE or SATA drives. Although SCSI is often recommended for Audio PCs, IDE performance is near identical, and does not utilize as much PCI bus throughput.

RAM:
No known issues.

CD-ROM, CD-RW drives:
No known problems with any drives.

Other Soundcards:
The only soundcards Aardvark products are incompatible with are Echo Audio products, such as Gina, Layla, and Mona.

Network Adapters:
Aardvark products coexist fine with most network adapters. There have been a few reported problems regarding integrated adapters made by Intel, but this is quite rare. Replacing with a different adapter fixes the problem.

Portable computers :
Aardvark PCI products are not compatible with laptop/notebook computers, nor are they compatible with "Docking stations" that provide portable computers with PCI slots.
